Generally speaking, any information that comes to any patent agency such as ours, must be kept confidential.

More specifically, as a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) and the registered patent agent profession, we must adhere to the following strict and comprehensive Code of Ethics http://www.ipic.ca/english/pdf/ethics.pdf

The Code covers Confidentiality in Chapter 2. The Code covers many other ethical obligations to clients and the public, in the rest of the 10 Chapters of the Code.

In short, whether you are a client or the public, you are protected in terms of confidentiality and much more!
