In which countries shall I file a patent application?

You should file a patent application in countries where you have commercial interests to protect. For example, to protect markets in the US and Canada, you should file 2 patent applications for the invention. If granted, the US patent will protect your US market, the Canadian patent will protect your Canadian market.
